Ask my mom, I have never been a good cook. She'll probably tell you about the time I made cookies with no flour... Cupcakes without any water, and tried to saute veggies in nothing BUT water. Easily said, I was a kitchen catastrophe.
But since I've come to school 2 states away, this girl has got to find her inner Julia Child, and whip up some tasty meals and treats. It's always been something I have wanted to become better at, so why not experiment now!
Yesterday, I wanted to make a batch of cupcakes. Not just any Betty Crocker Cupcake... but a unique cupcake from scratch. I follow a talented baker's blog, Sprinkle Bakes, and I found a delicious recipe for
Triple Salted Caramel Cupcakes.
All made from scratch... PERFECT!

All made from scratch... PERFECT!
So I got started! I went to the grocery store, bought all the listed ingredients, including things such as sugar, cream, vanilla, etc... By 5-o-clock, this girl was apron-ed up and ready to bake.
First off, I made the cupcakes by mixing dry ingredients with butter, eggs, and brown sugar. I even had to make the buttermilk from scratch! 1 tbsp of white vinegar added to a cup of milk. Who woulda thought!
I popped those suckers in to an oven for 25 minutes, then out to cool.
Next, I made the caramel filling: melting sugar, butter, and cream together. This was a delicate step, because sugar burns so easily, you must attend to it very closely.
I took the cooled cupcakes, and cut holes out in the center, then dipped a teaspoon of filling into each cake, placing the cut out pieces back in once filled.
Then, I made the caramel buttercream frosting. I once again made a caramel base, this time melting together sugar, water, cream and adding vanilla. Then I whipped it together with butter and SeaSalt. Placed in the fridge for 20-min to form.
Placing the frosting in a regular quart sized zip-lock, I piped the icing on top, and voila!
Triple Salted Caramel Cupcakes
made from scratch!
I hope to all of you who got to try them, that you enjoyed them, and if you get the chance and feel a little need to make these tasty treats, visit
